Uh-oh, the white walls are looking awfully appealing!

Last time I wrote we were heading back to put the second coat of primer onto the living and dining rooms. The first coat took us about seven hours – the plaster just soaked up the paint like a sponge, so it took ages to get good coverage. The second coat took about an hour and a half – seriously.

For the first coat we used Life Saver Primer. We then ran out and our local paint store wasn’t open on a Sunday, so we resorted to Lowes and bought some Zinsser 123 Bulls Eye Primer. Both worked out fine, we thought we preferred the Zinsser but that may have been because it felt like it went on easier.

The white walls in the front rooms make such a difference, I am starting to see why people prefer a good thick coat of white paint. Both rooms feel lighter and cleaner, even with all the paint scrapings and crap on the floor that we have managed to deposit over the last week. It could have something to do with the paint tarps we have on the floor too – they have covered the sad state of our unfinished Douglas Fir floorboards until we decide what to do with them. Never fear, we are planning on painting the walls period appropriate colors come Thanksgiving weekend.
